OOC Player Input: Ability Adds

by Dave N

August 2nd, 2016

Several of the games in the area have gone to adding Abilities to Trait calls.  I'm somewhat ambivelent on this - on the one hand, it makes abilities more valuable, which is a good thing, on the other hand, in genres other than Changeling, it tends to scew things in favor of the aggressor and in favor of older characters.  Last I was travelling around the org, it was also not widely a house rule, which would mean that your trait calls changed when travelling.  Again, not so much an issue with changeling.

If people are a fan of this rule, we would need to tweak it slightly for cantrips: as there is no ability retest for cantrips, but Greymare is allowed as a defense, we would probably add Realm to the agressor's traits instead of an ability.

As I said, I can take or leave this rule.  What do you all think?

IC: Announcements to the Duchy

by Dave N

July 24th, 2016

Sir Jaidyn ap Gwydion, Herald to the Duke and Duchess of Mirrors, brings the following announcements to all locations in which Fae gather:

"Let the following be known to all subjects of the Duchy of Mirrors:

First, that Sir Reid "Teeth" Thompson is hereby ennobled Baron of Graymere Glen. Congratulations Baron Thompson.

Second, that Countess Sorcha ni Eiluned is hereby released from her Oaths of Fealty and Guardianship so that she might pursue an opportunity to study in Europe as part of her continuing college education. We wish her the best, and safe travels.

In light of these changes, the Duchy seeks any and all Kithain interested in working together for the good of all, whether as Squires, Knights, Seers, Heralds, or what have you. The Bowling Alley Freehold is also in need of Guardians.

Finally, the Duchy thanks all who aided in saving the Hearthstone of the Elizabeth Park Freehold from the cold grip of banality. The Hearthstone shall be delivered to my Freehold before Lughnasa, so that a new location for it, and guardians for a new freehold, may be found. We look forward to rewarding Orsus and the others who have been so dedicated as to keep the Hearthstone safe at the Coldfort for the past month.

Autumn ni Fiona, Duchess of Mirrors

Teaser: Game 7/23: Night Fires

by Dave N

July 21st, 2016

This saturday, the 23rd, beginning at 7pm at 205 Hollister St Manchester, CT 06042, will be a special night game of Graymere Glen.

At the conclusion of last game, Seagulls from the Courts of the Mer brought an invitation to the Kithain of the Duchy of Mirrors *cough cough Commonwealth of Hope's Bounty.  The instructions in the letters asked the Fae to gather at the Graymere Glen Freehold on the evening of July 17th, or Highsummer Night, where the Trod to the Courts of the Mer would open at Midnight.

Highsummer Night, also know as 'Pranksgiving,' is the Holiday most beloved by the Pooka - a night when pranks are played by the shapechanging Kith upon mortal and Kithain alike.  The Nobility typically look away from any pranks that don't have major consequences, treating the Pooka laxly for this evening, and all mortals are considered fair game for the evening.  Think Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream... what fools these mortals be :)

There will be a fire.. so feel free to bring smores things and camp chairs.

July Game Date Change & Location Discussion (Everyone speak up, please)

by Dave N

July 5th, 2016

Hey all!

Sarah will be at a reenactment the weekend of the 22nd-24th, and our normal game day would be the 23rd.  We'd like to instead run on the 5th Saturday, since this month has one, which would make our game date the 30th.

As Seagulls delivered invitations to hang out with the Merfolk last game, we'd also like to run at a site which has actual water around.  Our first thought was the waterfall at Devil's Hopyard, but if that's too far out of the way we're open to other suggestions also.

Teaser: Game 6/25: Falling Stars

by Dave N

June 21st, 2016

After a month off for the Beltane event, changeling returns this Saturday, June 25th, at our regular time of 1pm.  Game will be returning IC to the unclaimed Elizabeth Park Freehold.  OOC, we will also be playing at Elizabeth Park.  Please meet at the stone bridge near the duck pond.

IC....

It has been two weeks since massive storms wracked the northeast.  Throughout the coastal areas, such as new haven, there has been heavy storm damage and flooding.  Even places like Hartford, located on a river, see large amounts of water damage.  Thousands of people in the state lost power, and many are only now able to turn their lights back on.

In the Dreaming, the fears and frustrations of so many people have spawned nightmares and Nervosa which mauraude across the Duchy.  And from the night sky, where the Red Star called the Eye of Balor used to glow, comes tumbling down a falling star, visible to both mortal and Changeling alike.  As it tumbles down, it breaks in two: one piece in the Autumn World, and one piece in the Dream, visible only to Kithain.  It falls somewhere just west of Hartford, into the long unclaimed Elizabeth Park Freehold, and there is a fiery glow on the horizon at night from where it impacted the earth.  Duchess Autumn (It's rumored Duke William is hunting Lions in Africa...) has commanded that this strange portent be investigated by all loyal Fae of the Duchy...

And into this unrest and chaos, heralds from the Parliament of Dreams ride throughout the Kingdoms, bearing the results of the election of the new Monarch of Grass...

The announcement may be found here.

Also, anyone who is a High School or College Student, we will be determining whether you passed or failed your classes this game!

May GG and the Beltane Memorial Day Event

by Dave N

May 1st, 2016

Our normal event day is at the same time as the Beltane Campout event.  It is primarily a Garou event, but also welcomes Mages and Changelings, and runs through all of the long memorial day weekend at Camp Cedar Crest.

I know that many of our players are already planning on going werewolf side, and staff will be at the event basically all weekend.  This means we will not, unfortunatlely, be running Graymere Glen on the regularly scheduled day.

If you play Changeling, but not Garou, I would highly recommend coming to the event anyway, to play your changeling PC, even if you only come for one day.  Its generally a lot of fun, and the event price of $45/person includes a certain number of meals - usually dinner, as well as camping space if you're interested in staying overnight.

You can pay by Paypal to jplace@hiddenflame.net, or pay on site.

As with everything else for this event, their House Rules for Changeling are rather extensive.  I've saved a copy to google drive, and you may view it here

If you would like us to send your sheet, please comment here.
