Full List of Raffle Prizes and details

by Dave N

February 20th, 2016

So, how is this going to work?

At the Character Creations Session today, we'll have a roll of double raffle tickets and envelopes.  Tickets will be $1 each, and you can put them in whatever envelopes you want.  At the end of the evening, we'll draw a single ticket from each envelope to choose a winner.

Please note that anything which grants Backgrounds, Abilities, Arts, Merits, etc must then be purchased with experience points.  We understand things can be tight at character creation, so you have a 1 month grace period to spend the points - meaning you can use the xp you earn from the first game if you need to.

What if I can't make it today?

Email, Text, or call Sarah and I.  We can put tickets in for you, and work out arrangements for you to get the money to us.  Paypall and Venmo are good for people who are out of state.

What can I win?

There will be (6) prizes up for raffle.  Here is the complete list:

Ratbreath's Cap - 5pt Treasure.  Full writeup may be found here.  Includes Prop.

Past Life. - A past life set during the War for Concordia in 1999.  Your character can't be older than 16 to claim this prize, but it allows a Childling or Wilder to take part in our one-shot tabletop session for Grumps.  During this session, the Grumps (and 1 person with this prize) will take part in the events that shaped the current Duchy of Mirrors after High King David's disappearence in 1998.  If you like learning secrets about the setting, building character ties, and getting a lead in to a multitude of plots, this is for you.  Finally, you can buy Remembrance and the Past Lives Merit up to whatever level you would like.

The Book of Trees. A notebook once owned by a Sidhe Knight in the area, many years ago, containing a great deal of information on the Ogham which are often used with the Naming Art.  Allows the purchase of Linguistics: Ogham, the Occult Library background at 1 dot, and the Merit: Home Ground Advantage: +1 Trait to all Naming Challenges while using the Book.  Includes Prop - which is great for working into Bunks.

Oneiromancy + Plot.  Allows the purchase of Oneiromancy without need for a teacher - an Art which is otherwise not something we are likely to approve for very many people, given its dark origins.  Includes a personal plot stretching all the way back to before the shattering.

The Book of Secrets.  A notebook chock-full of legends and lore.  This book contains pages from a variety of academic sources on the celtic myths which changeling is based upon, which have then been annotated in character by two NPCs from our setting.  This is so chock-full of changeling lore that we've been working on it since we decided to run this game and we're still not quite done.  Allows the purchase of as much Gremayre as you would like, up to level 6 under the optional rule in LOTN:R, as well as the Merit: Home Ground Advantage: +2 Gremayre while using the book.  This means you have access to as high as Gremayre 8 if you win this prize.  For those who don't know, Gremayre is not only the catch-all Changeling Lore in this setting, but is also used to Counterweave and defend against hostile magics.  Includes Prop. (Though you won't get it until game 1)

The Mirror of Princess Melusine.  5pt Treasure.  The Selkies, water-pooka, and others who interact with the sea are aware of a variety of Treasures called "Melusine's Mirrors', which reveal the true nature of whatever they reflect.  Those who have researched this mirror, which was at one point in the collection of Duke Rialdo, have theorized that it may be the original upon which lesser copies were based.  The Treasure contains the following powers:

Revelation: The user spends a point of Glamour.  Objects reflected in the mirror reveal their true natures automatically, as do characters (NPC or PC) who are attempting to hide their nature by mundane means.  Against Characters using Magic to hide their true nature, the user makes a Mental Challenge, retest Enigmas: success reveals the true nature of the target.

Glittering Train: As Melusine in the french faery tale, the owner may take on the form of an glittering, aquatic dragon/serpent.  This is as per the Mythic Transformation power, and grants the following benefits:

  • The Graceful and Lithe, Physical Traits while in water
  • The Gorgeous and Alluring Social Traits
  • The ability to breathe underwater and withstand the pressure of the depths indefinately
  • +2 Healthy Levels in the form of scales
  • Bite and Claw Attacks which inflict 2 Lethal Damage

However, the owner of the mirror also labors under Melusine's curse: one day per week, she must take her draconic form.  If anyone sees her do so, she will be trapped in this form forever... or at least until someone sets her free.

Includes Prop.

So, we've talked to Tim and the plan is to hold Character Creation after this coming Dogs of War on Saturday.  So, after the Dogs STs call game, we'll order some pizzas or something and stick around at Tim's house.  We'll have books, laptops, ipads, etc with us to help anyone who needs it.

Snow Day Goody #2

by Dave N

January 24th, 2016

There's often something of a class system in OWBN based on who has access to hard copy books or PDFs of dozens of books, and who doesn't.

We have compiled a file that converts all of the tabletop Merits and Flaws which will be allowed in this game from various sources, including the Kithbooks, War Across Concordia, and Fool's Luck: Way of the Commoner.  If there's a Merit or Flaw you really want from some other changeling book, feel free to message us privately, but for the most part things from books like Land of Eight Million Dreams, Denizens, and the like aren't appropriate for the setting.

The conversions may be found here

Snow Day Goody #1

by Dave N

January 23rd, 2016

We're know you're as disappointed as we are that we can't do Character Creation today, so we've decided to dole out a few goodies for you to drool over.  Here's the first - more to come :)

! Raffle Item !

This Item includes both an Item card and a hand crafted Prop.  As it is a Treasure, you do have to spend XP on it.  But we think you'll agree that this baby is worth it.

Ratbreath's Cap - 5pt Treasure

During the Accordance War, a young Redcap named Ratbreath bore High King Daffyl's Banner in the Battle of Manhattan - the battle in which Daffyl ap Gwydion was betrayed and murdered.  While Ratbreath's precise fate isn't known - nor his role in the death of the Sidhe conqueror - a Cap said to be his has been circulating ever since.

Souldrinker: (20 CP) When a Redcap wearing Ratbreath's Cap kills an enemy in the Autumn World (Chimerical Deaths don't count unless you're killing a Chimera), she must then rip open the chest of her enemy and soak this cap in blood straight from the heart.  The Cap mystically changes the soul of the slain enemy before it can pass on and return to the cycle - how, no one is quite sure - and then consumes that soul.  The soul - and its knowledge - become forever a part of the Cap, able to guide the Redcap who wears this Treasure from henceforth - though such soul-shards are not often particularly friendly to the one who killed them.  This Power is, in effect, a combination of the Level 5 Oneiromancy Cantrip, Expiation, and the Rede Archetype.

There is at least one soul already in the Cap.  That soul - and any others added to the Cap over time once in play - may be purchased as a Mentor.  These Mentors will be able to teach Abilities, Arts, and perhaps even stranger things to the wearer, as defined in the Mentor Background.  Additionally, the Soul is still Sentient, and has a Character Sheet of its own, which will be kept by Staff.  It may be roleplayed with by the player who wins this Treasure, and may be able to offer dark, secret pieces of information, as well as more immediate aid in a dangerous situation.

Banes: (+10 CP) Enmity x2: Sidhe and Nockers; Ferocious Beast; Glamour Pact; Token: The Heartsblood of the Slain

Creation Session and the Weather (Postponed)

by Dave N

January 20th, 2016

We're keeping a close eye on the weather forecast.  As of right now, it looks like the Midatlantic is going to get nailed, and we'll mostly escape with only an inch or two.  So long as that remains the case, we will meet.

We'll update again Friday.

The area is now under a Winter Storm Warning and expecting 4-7 inches, and there is a Parking Ban in East Hartford.  We'll be postponing the Character Creation session, but there will be one.  We'll update you with more info when we have it re-scheduled.
