Event items, etc. are not finalized, but it has the hotel information, dates, and some contact information. I'll do my best to keep everyone up to date on what's going on, but it looks like an early pre-reg will only be $20, and may go lower for a full weekend of gaming.

Journal Entries, Downtime Actions, etc.

by Ben Russell

January 2nd, 2015

If everyone could really try and have the stuff they want to do in by tomorrow, so it can be gone over at the staff meeting, that would be great.

Friendly reminder for those of you with chess games.

Another Announcement from the Prince

by Ben Russell

January 2nd, 2015

Greetings Kindred of the Domain of New Rochelle,

I just wanted to bring all of you up to speed on a contest being sponsored by the Elders of my Domain. Most of you were there when I let other know, however to make sure it reaches the eyes and ears of all, I wished to make it a more public. Below are the details, exactly as they were relayed to me. Clan Nosferatu will be hosting the first gathering. I hope that all Clans decide to participate.
OOC: Etiquette, Politics, Academics, et al as necessary
We propose is this: those visitors and residents of the domain who offer to host a gathering will be judged. The judges will consist of:
One of the judges will be designated by the host.
One of the judges will be designated by Your Grace.
and the remaining judge will be decided on by the elders of the domain.
The individual who is judged the best will receive two boons: the first, a minor from the elder of their choice; the second, a trivial from a different elder of their choice.
If you will allow a suggestion, I would allow a month or so for those individuals to come forward who may not be present at the gathering.
The host will be responsible for the locale, security, and all necessities.

Announcement from Prince Blake

by Jesse Jahn

December 11th, 2014

Greetings Kindred of the Domain of New Rochelle.

Change is in the air, and as such, I wanted to keep you informed as to some of changes I am making. These have to do with the officers of my Domain.
Solstice Sharp is my new Seneschal. For the exemplary service and dedication Tiberius Flint has given my domain,  let my *Valiant name spread the word far and wide that Tiberius is to be *Respected from this point on. Tiberius has set a high standard for any who take the position after him, and I am confident that Solstice will be up to the challenge.
Leif Swann, from this point forward, will be my new Keeper of Elysium. For his service, simultaneously holding the offices of both Primogen, and Keeper of Elysium, as I am *Well Known, let Corwin now be considered *Respected.
More changes will be made in the coming days and weeks, not only at city positions, but also in other areas as well. Please keep in touch with your Primogen for information on meetings and locations, and if you do not have a Primogen, contact the Harpy, or myself.
I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Prince Paul Blake

Good Idea/ Bad Idea (for a Plot)

by Ben Russell

November 23rd, 2014

Another topic of discussion, what sort of plots do people enjoy?

I've copied the text from the Camarillan genre thread ffrom people who included plot information.

From Dave Yeisley:

As always, having fun with it comes down to the execution, the devil in the details. This is more a comment on enjoying the game than on the vision of the genre itself, but I tend to think it works best when players get to experience scenes that allow their PC to do things that match how they envision their PC, and help express the story they want their PC to tell within the story of the chronicle. Accomplishing goals is only part of it, though an important one, but is also heavily reliant on PCs being able to fulfill their concepts (as defined by their players) even when their personal goals are not directly involved.

I can say some of the best times I have ever had with this game were when I felt like the staff were, for lack of a better term, 'fans' of my PC and other PCs, and wanted to see those characters and their stories grow though both successes and occaisional failures.

From Anthony G:

[Dave Y.'s quote]

This is a great attitude for STs to have, so I'll just emphasize it.

As for my own opinion, I think a good game needs more than just 1 theme. Yes politics is fun. But if that's all the game has, than it becomes stale. Yes combat is fun, but if that's all there is to it than it too becomes stale. Yes, weirdness from left field is fun, but if that's all there's to it, than it becomes stale.

A good game balances many different themes. You can have Camarilla politics... than have something completely weird and unexpected... than throw in some combat... and you get a good complex game.

Not only does it satisfy everyone, but through the mix you make each theme better. Political events become more eventful when politics doesn't occur constantly, Violence becomes more exciting when there isn't a blood bath every night, and Weirdness stands out much more when it can contrast to long episodes of normalcy.

So, I say, our game should have a bit of everything.

That's my 2 cents.

What is our Camarillan genre?

by Ben Russell

November 21st, 2014

I wanted to start a discussion on the Camarillan genre as expressed in Seasons of Strange. It's a Camarillan game, and while people have different viewpoints on what is fun for them, that's a different discussion than this one.

What does a Camarillan setting/ genre mean to our players and our regular visitors? I'm asking because it does nobody any good if staff thinks it's one thing, and the players think it's another.

For me:

Camaillan genre is about the shadow politics of predators with limited resources, where any decision to kill is never an easy one. The guy you hate this week is the guy you have to work with next week; or worse, the guy you owe a favor to. Spending several months to put an opponent in a position where he owes you a favor. Picking up neonates as minions to icrease their survivability at the cost of having to clean up their messes until they learn better. Owing favors (or better, becoming allies with) the ancilla who you were a minion to, and that you did work for to pay off the messes he cleaned up for you.

While I understand that not everyone feels the same way, please contribute your perspective, so the staff can blend everyone's virepoint so that the most people can have the most fun.

And if you want OOC help with politics, influences, or things like that, feel free to ask. I'm happy to tell war stories, give advise, or just explain things.

House Rule Updates and Clarifications

by Ben Russell

November 9th, 2014

We are makingthe following changes to the house rules:

We are adding"Ability Aptitude" to the  list of proscribed merits, making the list "4th in-clan" and "Ability Aptitude".

Characters are restricted in the addition of traits(per catagory), abilities, WP, disciplines (per discipline tree),backgrounds and virtues to one per month/ game cycle.

The addition of the requirement of listing the location of non-standard merits and flaws. Non-standard being defined as: an earlier edition, that the current one, a game other than vampire (Dark Ages counts as a different game, werewolf, mage, etc.)

Also, if you have more than one playable character (based in the this chronicle or not), you are restricted to one character per evening, or until the character you are playing becomes unplayable. Characters can then be switched with the approval of an ST.
