Thoughts on Setting

by Ben Russell

March 13th, 2015

At the last couple of games, a lot of our players have said that they "...haven't read all the books like the more experienced players..." (I'm paraphrasing for clarity a bit).

So, what does everyone think the differences between the real world and the World of Darkness are?

I'll start off. For me, one of the important differences is in costs and schedules. Everything exists, but not where you might think.

That smarphone you look at, to read this post? In WoD, it probably starts at over $1000. Stores? If in the real world they close at 5, in WoD they probably close at 7. Close at 9? Probably closer to 11. Why? Vampires only go out at night, and hundreds of years of controlling society from theshadows means things are more suited to vampiric schedules.

What differences between the real world and the world of darkness can you think of?

Reminders

by Ben Russell

March 4th, 2015

A reminder for our players:

There are some things we have asked our players to do. There are some players who have not done so, for the following list. Please take a look at your sheet, and your journals to make sure you've done the following, as it makes it much easier for staff to track things and respond.

  • Backgrounds, flaws, and merits that require specification/definition, such as Mentor (who your mentor is), Prey Exclusion, feeding restriction for Ventrue, Curses, Enemies, etc.
  • Haven description. If you do not give any sort of description, you are living in a basic haven of the appropriate type, with no special security. If staff is required to make a decision, that will be your haven. We will read elaborate descriptions, but something as simple as, "basement apartment with bricked over windows in the bedroom" will do.
  • Hunting style: Again something as simple as, "I use Presence and Dominate" is sufficient. This is necessary for when characters investigate one another. This information is just as helpful as us being aware and tracking flaws like "Grip of the Damned" and "Conspicuous Consumption"
  • Page references for merits and flaws not in the green books (Laws, Cam, Anarch, Sabbat, Dark Epics, or your clanbook most recent edition)

And, finally:

  • Spending influences: When spending your influences, please do in a format that resembles, "X levels of Y influence to do Z", particularly if you are doing grows.
"All my influences" doesn't help, as it means staff has to check the levels of influence on your sheet, work out what it is your trying to do. This gets even more complicated with grows, as staff has to go back and check previous months to verify your grow count.

It should only take a couple of minutes of double checking your sheet to see what you need to update, will make everyone's game lives easier, particularly should you start to visit other games. And I do appreciate anything that makes it easier for me to cross reference 60 characters worth of influence expenditures.

Personal Plots

by Ben Russell

March 3rd, 2015

As was briefly discussed at last game, in an effort to build up some funding for the chronicle, and help everyone feel like a special snowflake, we're offering personal plots, ending in a minorly powerful personally tailored item.

  • It is $5 per clue. The more clues you purchase, the more inherantly intricate your plot becomes. No matter the number of clues purchased, you receive only a single plot.
  • The item will never and can never be more powerful than is gainable by the Occult 5 action "minor magical item", though staff in no way guarentees the item to be magical in any way. It may be a well-crafted item, or simply not one normally available.
  • The plot will solvable by the character. For example, characters without a form of blood magic in-clan will never get a plot that requires blood magic to solve. however, if you are a Ventrue, it may require both Presence and Dominate, and if you don't have the required levels on your Ventrue, that's what XP if for.
  • These are not time-sensitive plots, meaning that you don't have to solve them within X number of months. If we decide to do this again, and you have not solved your plot, you will not get a new plot until this one is finished.
  • These are not major chronicle plots, they are personal-level plots.

If you have questions or want clarifications, ask.

Org Resources/Information

by Ben Russell

March 3rd, 2015

for those who have the interest:

http://camarilla.owbn.net/

It's the Camarilla wiki for the org, as well as the current status packet.

It's a nice way to get some IC information on your clan mates, when you intereact with the org at large, as well as a good way to get better known to the org.

February 18th, 2015

I wanted it thank everyone who responded to the previous thread about character photos.

For anyone interested in getting photos of their PC taken, I'll be bringing my camera and setup to the March game. This should hopefully give everyone plenty of time to prep. I'll also make the announcement at the February game.
