General Elections Begin: HC calls for Coordinator Applications

by Jenn Louise

March 6th, 2012

Please forward this to all interested parties and appropriate lists.

Pursuant to One World by Night Administrative By-Law 4.B:

"Other Coordinator Elections
The Head Coordinator will nominate all other Coordinators.
The Head Coordinator will accept applications for nominations for a minimum of two (2) weeks from the time the application procedure opens, which must be posted to the Council, ST, OWBN-OOC, and mailing lists in addition to the OWbN website.
The Head Coordinator is required to nominate any applicant who has the support of five (5) or more member chronicles of OWBN. They may decline candidates with less support at their discretion.
Each candidate must list prominently on their application from where their support is coming.
Chronicles may support more than one candidate in this manner and they do not have to vote for the candidate(s) they supported.
Current Coordinators may also support individual candidates. This support is a traditional method, and may count towards the five (5) support required, but is not officially required to be counted towards the support required.
Should only one person submit an application for a given position, then the Head Coordinator may nominate that one applicant without a second applicant on the same ballot or extend the time for collecting applications as the Head Coordinator sees fit.
The Head Coordinator may indicate which nominee is preferred.
The Ballot will be presented to Council seven (7) days before the voting period begins for discussion, but no later than March 27th without a ratified proposal granting the Head Coordinator an extension.
The Ballot will be posted on the Council, ST, and OWBN-OOC mailing lists at the beginning of the vote discussion period.
The vote will open on the day after the fourteen (14) day council discussion period, and close at the same time seven (7) days later.
All candidates for Coordinator positions will be put on Council during the fourteen day discussion period, and election week, to defend and explain their platforms. Those not elected shall be removed once the voting period is done.
The nominee carrying the most votes on Council shall become Coordinator.
In case of a tie, the Head Coordinator may either break the tie or hold a run-off election between all tied parties.
For a run-off election, only the candidates who were tied will be on the ballot. The option to reject all candidates will be removed. The option to abstain will remain.
If the election is still tied after the run-off vote, the HC will break the tie.
Coordinators will serve beginning two weeks after the election vote for their election closes, including any run-off election that may have taken place. The current Coordinator will be expected to brief the Coordinator-elect during these two weeks on issues and events relating to the particular Coordinator position being assumed by the Coordinator-elect.
No proposals relating to elections, election process, or the voting procedure may be proposed or ratified from the time the Council discussion of the ballot begins until the time all elections end.
The Assistant Head Coordinator and Second Assistant Head Coordinator positions shall be treated as the same position for application and election purposes, with the nominees carrying the highest and second highest number of votes becoming Coordinator. This vote shall have multiple acceptable options equivalent to the number of AHC positions available. Thus each Chronicle will receive a number of votes equal to the number of positions available."

I am now officially calling for applications/nominations for elected Coordinators from this moment until midnight CST on March 14th, 2012.

After this time, the submission period will be closed and elections process will begin with deliberations for two weeks and voting for one week.

(Which I would really like to streamline for future elections...this process seems dragged out and needlessly bogged down.  We end up in election mode for NINE WEEKS from HC to general Coordinators....UGH.

3 Weeks - HC process
2 Weeks - New HC calls for apps
1 Week - Ballot presented
2 Weeks - Discussion for applicants
1 Week - Voting)

From now until the close of elections, I will also be accepting applications for appointed positions.  Those results will be anounced within 72 hours of the close of general elections.

Sincerely,

Robert
Head Coordinator
One World by Night

To my fellow members of OWBN,

As many of you may have already seen or heard, I will be running for the position of Head Coordinator of One World By Night for the 2012 term. I'd like to thank all the ST's, CM's and players I have already spoken to that have offered their support for my application and offered me some advice on revising my platform. I have integrated your suggestions, and am quite satisfied with my final product.

In any case, I wanted to open up my application to a wider audience for comments, questions, or any further offers of support.  You will find my application at the following handy Google Docs link (feel free to share this with the world):

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-tyaEb0JN_6aM-pxwpMdbRNCtVHla-IYWl1S4XJJLX8/edit?hl=en_US

Also, I took to the airwaves to talk about my application and answer some initial questions, which you can listen to here (episode entitled 'Joe Schuster Head Coordinator Interview'):

http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=31339&cmd=tc

I remain open to any or all questions ... even horribly flame-y ones if that is more your style. I believe strongly in every player in OWBN taking ownership of their participation in the hobby, and suggest that you not only read my application, but the application of all candidates for this position so that you can remain informed in your decision making.

Thank you once again for your time!

~Joseph Schuster

Proposal for 3 Archivists

by Jenn Louise

February 7th, 2012

[PROPOSAL] [COORDINATOR BYLAW REVISION] ARCHIVIST 3

I, Robert Crosby, Head Coordinator for One World by Night, do hereby propose that Coordinator By-Law 2.A.vi be altered to include a third Archivist position.

Currently, the workload is too massive and the system needs not only maintenance but an overhaul as well. The assistance of a third Archivist will aid in this effort.

The By-Law reads:

Appointed Coordinator Positions
The following Coordinator positions shall be appointed by the Head Coordinator as needed until such time as the Council feels the genre requires an elected Coordinator position:
Wraith
Changeling
Kuei-jin
Mage
Web Coordinator
Archivists (2 positions)
Demon

And would be changed to:

3.       Appointed Coordinator Positions
The following Coordinator positions shall be appointed by the Head Coordinator as needed until such time as the Council feels the genre requires an elected Coordinator position:
Wraith
Changeling
Kuei-jin
Mage
Web Coordinator
Archivists (3 positions)
Demon

If this proposal receives no objections, then I will move to auto-pass/general consensus it.

Sincerely,

Robert
Head Coordinator
One World by Night
