From Now On

by Neffarious

September 22nd, 2011

Starting October 29th (transitioning into a crazy pre-halloween party ...)

We will be meeting during the day on the 4th Saturday of every Month form 12 - 6pm so that those of you who play Kings of New York can have enough time to eat/travel/change and still show up to game on time.  We will be moving to a new (Fall) Venue closer to the Flat Iron district, more details to come.

If you're still interested in exploring the fuzzier side of New York, please let me know so I can get a head-count and book our new space.

Game in August

by Neffarious

August 3rd, 2011

After the somewhat disappointing turnout this past weekend (due to last minute cancelations) I've decided that we'll be running the next chapter of Cry Havoc on Saturday, August 13th.  Third weekend is Boston, Fourth weekend is KoNY, and my Aunt's funeral is this Saturday ... So please let me know ahead of time if you can make it. The Location is TBA - depending on the number of people who can attend.

To avoid any logistical/temporal confusion, Cry Havoc will be taking place this Saturday, July 30th at Belvedere Castle/Shakespeare Garden in Central Park.  Game starts at 2:00pm and will end sometime around 8:00pm.

Hope to see you all there.

Monthly News Reports

by Neffarious

July 20th, 2011

((These are broken down into influence sections, but anyone closely following the news can notice articles/reports detailing the following events))

NOTE: There is a noticeable decrease in the homeless population this month, all Street Influence actions involving vagrants and the like are at -1 effectiveness.
Church:
Scaffoldings were erected at the Church of St. John the Divine; which will be undergoing exterior reconstruction over the course of the next two months.  During that time the Church will be closed periodically.
------
High Society:
Lincoln Center was shut down for a week.  Custodians say it was to get rid of dry-rot in the foundation.  As a result four concerts were canceled.  Tickets will be honored this month for two limited engagements to compensate patrons.
------
Police:
There is a rash of new missing persons cases. Most cases occurred in Manhattan between 59th and 23rd streets.  Most of the persons were tourists (husband disappears after having a fight with his wife while on vacation for their 40th wedding anniversary; teenager disappears from school trip; entire family believed to be missing after never checking out of their hotel room ... )  One was a dog walker who is believed to have absconded with 5 professional show-dogs.
------
Health:
There was a minor outbreak of Necrotizing fasciitis (fleash eating bacteria) on the lower east side.  The CDC blames a bad batch of bananas imported from Barbados. NYU medical center took the lead on diagnostic treatment, and began synthesizing an antigen within 72 hours of the outbreak .
------
Industry:
The Avery Foundation initiated a new Parks Project to clean up East River Park.  A private recycling center is being built off of Wharf Street (the South End of the Park).
Workers from the Northern Queens Sewage Treatment Plant went on strike.  The strike was resolved in three days, but during that time, the plant shut down.
------
Bureaucracy/Transportation:
Con Edison has been upgrading MTA switch-boxes on the Upper West and Upper East sides.  They shut down Avenue intersections one at a time over the course of the month, performing maintenance between 1 and 4 AM, and Subway service was temporarily disrupted on certain lines in the wee hours of the morning ... but this has had minimal impact on the City's transportation.
There was also a natural gas leak in Tribeca.  Con Edison shut down two major intersections for three days to work on the problem.  This caused some major traffic delays for people crossing the Holland Tunnel, which was itself closed one Sunday so that inspectors could make sure the gas leak was contained.
------
Politics:
Activists jammed traffic at City Hall over the course of three days, protesting a bill that would make private incinerator services mandatory in all major apartment complexes in Manhattan (they would burn their own trash and release the smoke into the air).
The bill was voted down.
------
Street:
Three Street Fairs were granted permits this month.  The annual Columbus Avenue Craft's Fair (taking place from 103 to 79th street), The Park Avenue march for Peace in the Middle East (from 96th to 59th) and the South Harlem Crosstown Community Jamboree (traversing 110th all the way from West End to East End).  All three were held without incident.

OMG July has FIVE SATURDAYS

O.O

If B:CoL is on the 15th (3rd Friday) and KoNY is on the 23rd (4th Saturday) ... Would you guys like to have the next Cry Havoc on July 30th (5th Saturday)?  Of course, I'm not ruling out running on the 16th, I just think ... hell if there's a 5th Saturday this month, shouldnt there be a game on it?

Tut-tut looks like rain (on the 18th)

by Neffarious

June 10th, 2011

So the Accuweather forecast calls for showers on the 18th ... well for all of next week really.  So I'm looking into an alternate site for Cry Havok on the 18th.  There are several indor public spaces (atriums, plazas, "arcades") a reasonable distance from the Park, but again ... they are all public, even moreso than the park, and I don't want anyone feeling uncomfortable.  Would you guys prefer I book a private indoor space and forego the idea of playing outside entirely?  I can take pictures and post them for you to decide.

EDIT:  The forecast now says that the 18th and 19th will be the only two days of the week when it WON'T rain.  I'm still going to look for a backup site, but it seems we'll be ok.
