Printing of Sheets

by Boston Sabbat Staff

February 11th, 2010

If you need staff to print your sheet for you, please let us know.  By commenting here in this thread, in your character's journal, emailing us at bostonsabbat@gmail.com.  Somehow, please let us know.  The number of people who are showing up to game and asking if we printed their sheet is starting to get out of hand.  We have no issues printing sheets for people, but we need to know.  It's a waste of paper for us to print off everyone's sheet when only a handful of people actually need us to print their sheet.

Thank you,
The Staff

Word around the city streets

by Lex

January 28th, 2010

The number of local Loyalists has begun to explode within the greater boston area. Many among them have gathered performing ritae and discussing the recent events in Boston. In thanks to "Bishop Natalie whatever the rest is" Not even a Priscus is above the code. Finally a city that doesn't just talk about it but has decided to "Be about it."

FREAK STORM OFF EAST COAST CLAIMS OVER 50 LIVES

by Stephen McAuliffe

January 12th, 2010

FREAK STORM OFF EAST COAST CLAIMS OVER 50 LIVES

Boston -  A sudden and intense storm came into existence 50 miles west of Boston yesterday, dropping a mix of rain, hail, and snow onto several ships.  The intense wintery mix caused over 50 deaths and a yet unknown number of injuries.  Upwards of 95% of the deaths were aboard the Elizabeth Alden, which was caught in the center of the storm.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Elizabeth Alden had failures in the heating systems which started a chain reaction shutting down many computer controlled systems, including navigation.  As a result the Elizabeth Alden was unable to find its way out storm quickly.

The vast majority of casualties sustained were due to intense hypothermia.  A growing number of missing persons from the Elizabeth Alden has also been reported, although they are presumed to have wash overboard.

The Elizabeth Alden is owned by Vanderbilt & Rosenwald, a medical supply company and subsidiary of Hornby Enterprises LTD.  The Elizabeth Alden was carrying materials needed to manufacture the much needed H1N1 vaccine. Ellis Goldman, a spokesman for Hornby Enterprises, stated that the incident would not impact the supply of the vaccine in any significant way.

Post Game

by Boston Sabbat Staff

December 20th, 2009

Everyone's xp should be updated.  If you got an RP nod, and you don't see the xp for it, my apologies.  I know a lot went out at the end of game, and I got the ones I remembered.  So, if you got an RP nod, and I missed it, award it to yourself.

I hope everyone had fun at game.  I know we got started a little late, and as such, some things wound up getting pushed back/didn't run as smoothly as planned.  I want to thank Aaron again for stepping in and helping us out, especially with the stuff getting dropped in the main room as Lex, Steve, and myself were running around like crazy people trying to juggle flaming bowling pins.  That said, feel free to post any questions/concerns/comments regarding game here.

Changing Morality Paths

by Kat F

November 19th, 2009

Okay, Lex and I got the rules for switching paths hammered out.  It may change over time as it gets fine tuned and tweaked, as we've not actually used this yet, but right now, it's what we're going with.

The chop is a static willpower challenge, with three different difficulties based on the differences between your current path and the one you are trying to switch to.

Difficulty 5: If you're switching to a path that has the same virtues as your current path (ie, Humanity to Honorable Accord).

Difficulty 6: If you're switching to a path that has only two virtues virtue in common with your current path (ie, Humanity to Death and the Soul).

Difficulty 7: If you're switching to a path that has only one virtue in common with your current path (ie, Humanity to Power and the Inner Voice).

You may make your first attempt to switch paths at Humanity 2.  If you win outright on this test, you may start at a rating of 2 on the new path.

If your first attempt to switch paths is at Humanity 1, you may make a free retest should you fail the initial challenge.  If you win outright on this test, you may start at a rating of 2 on the new path.

Additionally, when making the challenge to switch paths, you may expend as many PERMANENT willpower traits as you wish, up to your current permanent willpower,  to continue retesting should you fail the initial challenge.

When making your path switch, you must still spend XP on your new path traits and virtues.  Remember that morality traits are 2xp, while virtues are 3xp each.

Revised House Rules

by Boston Sabbat Staff

November 19th, 2009

Hey guys, we went over the House Rules and have revised them.  As such, please disregard the old set of rules.  We will have an updated copy of the rules at game on Friday.  If you have any questions/comments/concerns, let us know.  Blood Magic we're still working on, and as soon as we finish that one, we'll get it posted.

General Rules

0. The Staff reserves the right to make any ruling they see fit to any scene as may need be appropriate. Please be sure to check with the Staff for various OWBN Bylaws and Genre Binding Documents for anything not presented here.

1. In a challenge, you may win on ties with EITHER Potence or Celerity.

2. Majesty is line of interaction.  If you can interact with the character, you are affected by Majesty.

3. Powers (Merits, Disciplines, Rituals, etc) that are not in LotN: R, or Guide to the Sabbat must be written down on either an item card, or the notes section of your character sheet with the citation of the document, page number, and mechanics.  This must be approved and stamped by the Boston Staff or you will not be allowed to use them.

4. Obtenebration 3: Arms of the Abyss - You may only summon/control a number of tentacles equal to the sum of our Obtenebration + Occult divided by two, rounded down.

5. Vicissitude 5: Blood Form - This power is instantaneous and may be used reflexively.  When attacked you may turn any part of your body to blood and negate the physical damage at the cost of one blood trait.  Other sources of damage still apply (fire, wards, etc.).  If this is being done to avoid being staked, you must declare turning your heart to blood before the two simple tests.

6. Animalism: Drawing Out the Beast – When using this power, your beast returns to you at the end of the scene.

7. Valaren: Armor of Caine’s Fury – This replaces Ending the Watch.  To activate Armor of Caine’s Fury, you spend one blood, and up to five mental traits.  For each mental trait you spend, you gain a level of armor that is capable of soaking bashing and lethal damage.  You are also one trait up on Courage challenges.  This power may only be activated once per scene.

8. In challenges of Auspex vs. Obfuscate, you add a number of traits equal to your Auspex or Obfuscate.

9. To teach any Combination Discipline, you must possess at least one of the prerequisite disciplines In Clan.

10. You may not combine damage dealing attacks with carrier attacks.  IE, you may either strike for damage or strike to quell.

11. Willpower may be spent to ignore frenzy for 15 minutes.  If the stimulus is still present at the end of 15 minutes, you frenzy, no test.  The willpower must be spent before your check for Frenzy.

12. You may only bid up to double your natural generational max for traits.

13. Nothing explodes in Boston.  When you think you need explosives, what you actually need is fire.  Consequently, the ability Demolitions is not allowed.

14. Linguistics: Level 1 = 1 additional language, Level 2 = 2, Level 3 = 4, Level 4 = 8, Level 5 = 16.  In addition to the 2 Trait Bonus on Linguistic Challenges, the Natural Linguist Merit doubles the number of languages a character may possess. (Straight out of Kindred of the East that says this new Linguistic rule replaces all others every printed)

15. Influence - See Dark Epics.  You may not have more than 5 points in any one sphere.

16. Fame is capped at three at character creation.

17. The Rituals ability is used to retest Ritae, the Rituals background is used to actually possess Rites.

18. The Merit Ambidextrous provides an extra trait when wielding two weapons, not an additional action.

19. The Merit Luck may not be used in combat challenges.

Character Creation

- Allowed Starting Clans: Lasombra, Tzimisce, Panders, Serpents of the Light, Antitribu: Brujah, Malkavians, Nosferatu, Toreador, Assamite Warriors, Gangrel, and Ventrue.  You may submit a backstory within one month for character creation points.

- Merits and Flaws: Anything out of Laws of the Night: Revised, Sabbat Guide and the Camarilla Guide is allowed.  Anything else must be run by the Boston staff before approval will be granted.

- Any character wishing to start at better than 13th generation must submit a backstory and be approved by the staff unless you have a PC sire.

- Any character wishing to start on a Path of Enlightenment other than Humanity must submit a backstory and be approved by the staff.

The total number of free points available to a Vampire character on Character Creation is 21:

-The character may take up to 7 points in Flaws. More then 7 points in Flaws may be taken, but only 7 points will be awarded for them.

- The character may also take 5 points in Negative Traits. More then 5 points of         Negative Traits may be taken, however only 5 points will be awarded for them.

- Finally a character may both reduce their Humanity or Path by 1 Trait, for 2           points, and take a Derangement for another 2 points.

- The additional 5 automatic Free Traits brings the total number of points to 21.

Character Creation is directly out of the Sabbat Guide:

- Traits are distributed 7/5/3

- 5 Free Abilities

- 0 Free Backgrounds

- 4 In-Clan Starting Disciplines, one of these may be an intermediate. No PC may start with Blood Magic.

- 7 Virtue Traits

- Starting Humanity/Path is equal to Conscience/Conviction plus Self                  Control/Instincts divided by two.

Feeding Info

by Kat F

October 15th, 2009

Feeding Chops

Starting this coming Friday, Pack Abbots will be throwing the feeding chop for their Pack and will then be given a blood total to distribute to their Packmates as they see fit.  If a Pack has no Abbot, they are considered to have tied on their feeding challenge.  If you are Packless, you are considered to have lost on your feeding challenge.  Visitors will be throwing blood chops as normal as they are considered to have fed before travelling.

Feeding Grounds

These are the various feeding grounds available in the city.  Starting this coming Friday, we will be asking for the Packs to meet and send their Abbots to the Staff to inform us of where you will be feeding.

Downtown

Boston's center of business and government combine with the Boston Common and the Public Garden to form a dynamic downtown. Downtown also serves as a sanctuary for shoppers, offering everything from large department stores to cozy boutiques. Home to many of Boston's most historic sites such as Faneuil Hall, downtown Boston will soon benefit from two innovative plans designed to enhance and enliven this area, the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway and the Crossroads Initiative. The Greenway will beautify this area by weaving twenty-seven acres of green space into the fabric of the city. Crossroads will introduce a new set of 21st century street standards through downtown and reunite the surrounding neighborhoods to Boston Harbor and each other, with the Greenway as the centerpiece.

Roxbury

Once a farming community, Roxbury is home to the historic Shirley Eustis House, the only remaining country house in America built by a British Royal Colonial Governor. Today this neighborhood, which serves as the heart of Black culture in Boston, is undergoing a renaissance. Hundreds of new business and housing initiatives have revitalized the neighborhood's Dudley Square, Crosstown, and Grove Hall areas. The dramatic transformation of Blue Hill Avenue from a street lined with vacant lots to a dynamic business district is one of Mayor Menino's proudest achievements. The Roxbury Center for the Arts, Culture, and Trade, which opened in 2005, celebrates the cultural richness of the community through the visual and performance arts.

Back Bay

It's easy to understand why the Back Bay is one of America's most desirable neighborhoods. Newbury Street, Boylston Street and Commonwealth Avenue are lined with unique shops, trendy restaurants and vintage homes, making the Back Bay an extremely fashionable destination for Boston residents and visitors. In fact, it's not uncommon to spot celebrities strolling up and down these picturesque streets. This bustling neighborhood also houses the two tallest members of Boston's skyline, the Prudential Center and the John Hancock Tower, in addition to architectural treasures such as Trinity Church and the Boston Public Library.

North End

Home to American patriot Paul Revere, the North End is one of Boston's most historic neighborhoods. Traditionally a first stop for immigrants arriving in Boston, the North End is most well known as an enclave of Italian immigrants. Today the North End is populated by a mixture of Italian Americans and young professionals who are attracted to the neighborhood's tight-knit feel and access to downtown. Tourists come from near and far to sample authentic Italian cuisine, enjoy a cannoli or a cappuccino, and explore its narrow streets. In recent years, a number of boutiques have opened in the North End specializing in everything from trendy clothing to jewelry. The North End also offers access to Boston's waterfront along Commercial Street. Residents and visitors can enjoy strolling and relaxing in the newly renovated Christopher Columbus Park, and during summer evenings the park is host to a performing arts series.

South Boston

Once a predominantly Irish Catholic community, in recent years South Boston has become increasingly desirable among young professionals and families who are attracted to the neighborhood's strong sense of community and quick access to downtown and public transportation. People from all over the city enjoy taking a stroll around Castle Island, a Revolutionary War-era fort and 22-acre park that is connected to the mainland. "Southie Pride" is on full display in March when city residents flock to the neighborhood to enjoy the annual South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade. Today the breathtaking South Boston Waterfront is emerging as Boston's newest neighborhood. Already home to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, planned development for the Waterfront includes residential, office, retail, and hotel use. The Institute for Contemporary Art, slated to open in September, stands as an iconic symbol of the South Boston Waterfront's unlimited potential.

Charlestown

Situated on the banks of Boston Harbor and the Mystic River on the north side of the city, Charlestown has translated its historical roots into a thriving 21st Century neighborhood. As the home to such significant landmarks as the U.S.S. Constitution, the Bunker Hill Monument and the Navy Yard, Charlestown's allure has enticed a new generation of immigrants and young professionals to join its traditionally Irish-American population. Residents, new and old, frequent the local restaurants and establishments along Main Street and in City Square.

Allston

This radiant neighborhood is best known for its student population due to its proximity to many colleges and universities. In recent years, an influx of immigrants and young professionals has taken an increasingly active role in the neighborhood. This varied mix of people creates one of the most energetic and diverse populations in Boston. Harvard Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue and Brighton Avenue host many ethnic restaurants and popular watering holes. The Honan-Allston branch public library, named after the late Boston City Councilor Brian Honan, is a treasure of information and genuine resource for the entire community.

Roslindale

Once considered a "garden suburb" of Boston, today's residents of Roslindale are still attracted to the neighborhood's natural beauty. Locals walk and bike in the Arnold Arboretum, a 265-acre oasis that is part of Frederick Law Olmstead's Emerald Necklace. Many of the neighborhoods' large colonial homes are being converted into condos to accommodate the influx of young professionals and families. Roslindale Village is the city's original Main Street district and now one of the city's most vibrant, featuring several bistros, unique shops, and wireless Internet access. The MBTA Orange Line and Commuter Rail provide commuters with easy access to downtown.
