I have had some players asking when they can do their Rite of Passage. So I am making this post to help clarify things for any players that are unclear on the difference between a Rank Challenge and a Rite of Passage.
First, I will go over any similarities between the two events. There is only one similarity, if you complete either event, you will have porven yourself to be the next rank.
Next I will list the Ranks
0 - Cub
1 - Cliath
2 - Fostern
3 - Adren
4 - Athro
5 - Elder
6 - Legend
Now for the differences. Only a garou who is the rank of Cliath or above may perform a rank challenge. It is not a rite, but it may require the use of rites and gifts. It will definately require you to spend some thought in carrying it out, and each tribe have their own flavors on what should be done. The order of priority for who to challenge is Tribe, followed by Auspice, then Breed, finally if you have no one else to challenge you may challenge the Master of the Challenge. Note, you may not challenge anyone more than 2 ranks above you. To challenge someone, you step up to the Challenge Mound, call out your full deed name. At this time you may declare any paticularly remarkable actions that you have taken and not received a deed name for. Next, you declare that you are challenging So and So to call you the XXXXX or give you a challenge to prove yourself. After this, the Challenged will give you a challenge to complete or declare you are worthy of the rank you challenged for (the last option is almost never exercised by the challenged). The Challenged sets all the stipulations of the challenge, they may restrict anything they want, send you to do anything anywhere they want you to go. They only authority on what is fair is the Master of Challenge. After hearing the issued challenge, the Challenger may accept and go out ot do the challenge or refuse and drop to the minimum renown for his current rank.
The Rite of Passage is a sacred Rite of the Garou, it is only given to cubs. This is the time where a cub, or group of cubs, is given one or more tasks to perfrom and prove themselves as a full member of Garou society. Typically the Rite Master, although any Garou with the Rite and the Permission of the Rite Master, consecrates the group and sends them out to perform the task(s) required to prove themselves. Not all cubs survive the Rite of Passage. The tasks can range from kill this Wyrm thing to answer these riddles to steal this item to anything in between. Each cub, in a gorup going through at once, may be given seperate tasks to complete. Again every tribe has their own views on what should be done, tasks are always tied to the cub(s)'s auspice(s).
I know I am not the most knowledgable in Garou, so anyone with further details, please speak up. Also anyone with more questions, please ask them. I am sure someone in this game can answer them, or pointing you in a direction to find an answer.

I need Ed, Tom, Karoyy, Erika, and Tamara to respond to this thread.
This is to set up a downtime session to run both Ed's rank challenge and the cub's rite of passage. As Ed's rank challenge requires the cubs to be present, we the staff would like to bang both of these events out in one gathering.
Dan MacMahon, who is running the rite of passage, is available any sunday but 2nd sunday of Decemeber. What is good for all of you?
Also, Tim, may we use your home to run this?

Things of note about IP in the news:
1) Although IP stock had a dangerous plummet in August, by the end of September their stock has recovered and then some. It went from $60.16 a share to 112.58 a share. This was mostly due to the large profits reported in their 2nd quarter earnings.
2) Under Weddings, one Macie Kern married a Jergen Sigurdssen.
3) The CT Attorney General is looking into filling an injunction against many "nutrional aid" products. There were no specifically mentioned products.
4) There has been an increase in the robbery of delivery trucks across CT, paticularly those belonging to IP.
